Why an estate sale vs. an aution?
With an Estate Sale you don't need to do any packing! Just leave everything where it is. By examining your items we can determine the best liquidation method for your needs. Buyers tend to pay more when they see items in their original setting. Also, be aware that auction houses often charge a cartage fee to pick up your items, require that the items be insured and charge a per photo fee for their catalogs
How long does it take to conduct a sale?
Sorting and setup can usually be done in two-three weeks, with the actual sale 2-3 days. However, we are willing to work under any circumstances, and will do everything in our power to work within your time limits.
How much does it cost?
Most sales will be in the 35% range. However, the rate we charge is determined by the quality of items and amount of work involved. Note: We are not afraid to "dig" through some pretty unpleasant environments to find the treasures, and in some extreme cases have even been know to do pre-sale salvage work.
Do I need to be present at the sale?
While you are, of course, certainly welcome, we have found that it can sometimes be unsettling to see your family's things being sold and you may find it uncomfortable to be there. Also, the buyers tend to be intimidated by the presense of the owners.
Should I go through and clean out stuff before you get there?
Absolutely not! Many people inadvertantly throw away what they consider to be "junk", not knowing that it could be worth hundreds and possibly thousands of dollars in the antique and collectible markets. I'm sure you've heard the familiar quote,
"I was a millionaire, until my mother threw away my baseball card collection!"
What if family members want certain items?
Family photos, childhood keepsakes and any item you or your family want to keep should be decided on prior to the sale. In fact, we encourage family to keep their precious keepsakes, knowing that they can never be replaced. However, no items should be removed after the contract has been signed and the contents of the sale agreed upon.
