Courses offered

Our curriculum supports students through well-defined stages of development systematically building focus, relaxation, balance, self-control, calmness, and positive connection with others. Students of Shinshin Toitsu Do improve coordination of mind and body while developing instincts for constructively dealing with conflict, managing multiple obligations while giving full attention to the task at hand, and dealing calmly with emergencies. Classes provide multiple approaches to Mind-Body unity:

Ki-Aikido

We teach Ki-Aikido as a discipline designed to help realize the oneness of mind and body. All Aikido techniques begin and end with the principle of non-dissension, eliminating the idea of a conflict in our hearts as well as in the hearts of others. Students begin by learning pre-arranged attack/defense moves to develop technical skill and agile, flowing movement. Techniques gradually progress into freer and more open forms of practice. It is a vigorous, challenging, and fun way to explore the relationship between mind and body, calm and action, as well as self and others.

Ki Development, Breathing & Meditation

Ki Development classes train us to realize oneness of mind and body in daily life. Drawing on Zen, Shinto, Yoga, and martial arts traditions, our Ki Development curriculum teach you practices you can easily incorporate into your daily life, while giving you a direct experience of oneness of mind and body. You will learn the value of good posture, relaxation, and a positive mind and realize your natural ability to remain calm and perform to the best of your ability in even the most challenging circumstances. Ki Development training is a strong complement to Yoga, Zen, martial arts, sports, and the performing arts.

Kiatsu Therapy

Kiatsu means to connect with Ki. Kiatsu Therapy is the art of promoting the natural flow if Ki in yourself or another through gentle touch. Our special year-long Kiatsu curriculum will introduce students to the basics of Kiatsu including self-care, opening one’s self to the Ki of the Universe, connecting positively with others, and using Ki to support your own or another’s healing journey through realization of oneness of mind and body. Kiatsu Therapy is fundamentally experiential and educational, not medical in nature. It is designed to support each person in taking charge of their own health and well-being, not to create reliance on a practitioner.

Misogi

Special classes and workshops in Misogi (purification exercises) will be offered monthly. These physically demanding classes produce a deep experience of calmness, while also being highly invigorating. We currently train Misogi on the Third Thursday of each month.
