Download 2005 Forms 5500, but remember you cannot file forms downloaded from the internet. You must use an EFAST approved software program or offical handprint forms.
What's New for 2005 Forms 5500
- Schedule T has been eliminated.
- Plan coverage information is now reported on Schedule R
Remember the following changes from 2004 Forms 5500
- You can no longer attach white paper pages for required schedules such as Schedules D and SSA. Multiple standard form pages are now required. Attachments other than the official pages may be rejected.
- Do not report an individual's social security number on the lines that request EINs. Inclusion of a social security number anywhere on the Form or schedules may cause the return to be rejected.
- New feature codes for U.S. Based plans that cover residents of Puerto Rico
- Multiple changes to Schedule B to remove lines related to OBRA '87.
The Department of Labor has released the following filing tips to help avoid common errors.
- Properly sign and date your returns
- Use the proper EIN and Plan Number
- Returns should be for a period of no more than 12 month
- Final returns must have no assets, liabilities or participants
- Use a valid "Business Code" that describes the nature of an employer's business
- Use the proper "Plan Characteristics" for benefits provided by the plan
- Indicate the proper funding and benefit arrangements
- Attach all required schedules and attachments to the return before filing
- Do not file a schedule by itself. All schedules must be accompanied by a Form 5500
- Use an EFAST approved software of the official handprint forms
- Amended Returns should not include schedules that have not been changed
